Taylor Reaches Milestone as NZ Post 330 Runs to Defend
Surpassing former captain Stephen Fleming’s 8007 runs, veteran Ross Taylor becomes the most runs getter (8026) in ODI for New Zealand. Having finally found the opportunity to bat in the third ODI against Bangladesh, Taylor played a decent 69-run knock and also formed a crucial 92 runs partnership with Henry Nicholls (64) in the third wicket that took the total to 151 runs in the 29th over.
New Zealand eventually scored 330/6 in their allocated 50 overs, thanks to some late blast by Neesham and Grandhomme in last five overs. Neesham scored 37 off 24 balls, while Grandhomme blasted 37 off just 15 balls. New Zealand scored 59 runs in the last 30 balls. Bangladesh now need 331 runs to avoid yet another whitewash in New Zealand.
Sent into bat, New Zealand were off to a careful start. Tiger Captain Mashrafe had a pretty good first spell. Maintaining nice line and lengths, he managed to remove opener Colin Munro within 4 overs in a good length bowl, who missed connecting the ball and adjusted Ibw. Few overs later inform Martin Guptil lost his wicket to Saifuddin after trying to smack him in the long on region. Tamim took a brilliant catch in the boundary line. At that stage New Zealand were 59/2 in 12 overs. Bangladesh succeeded to keep quiet the New Zealanders, but a solid partnership between Nicholls and Taylor changed the whole scenario of the innings.
Mustafizur Rahman was the most expensive bowlers among the Bangladeshi bowlers. He conceded 93 runs in 10 overs and bagged 2 wickets.
